"Let God Tell You What to Give"
“Honor the Lord by giving the first part of all your income, and He will fill your barns with wheat and barley and overflow your wine vats with the finest wines.” Proverbs 3: 9 TLV
There are several ways you can make a decision to give. You can reason it out or you can trust the revelation. If you want to become a person of faith, you have to learn to give by revelation. You see, when you give by reason, it’s what you figure is reasonable. You already know you can do it and it doesn’t require any faith.
Giving by revelation is when you say, “God, what do you want to give through me? How much do you want me to trust you for in this particular instance?” Roxann and I experienced this in the Capital Campaigns. One of the things we were asked to do was to share what our gift would be over the three years.
I was reluctant at first because I felt it could be thought of as prideful. Yet, the gentleman helping us with our Capital Campaign said that our gift would help to inspire others to give. With that in mind, we asked you to pray and help us to fulfill a promise that would be equal to 10% of our income on top of the 10% we were already giving.
Had we not trusted God in faith, Roxann and I would not have experienced the blessings that we received from giving. Because we stepped out and trusted, many of you followed us in the same way and we were able to build our addition.
It has been a blessing to many, many people over these years, far more than I could ever have imagined.
The interesting thing is that even as we increased our giving God blessed us more and more so that we were able to continue doing all the other things we like to do. It was quite an eye opener for me.
I pray that you will also hear what God wants you to give and respond in kind.
Peace in the Lord,
