"Healing Choices: A Mind for Repentance"
“Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” Romans 12: 2 NLT
Have you ever tried to change the direction on an autopilot in a boat? You could try to do it by your will or by physically overcoming it?
You might be able to do it, although it is highly unlikely, but you will feel constant stress and tension. Eventually, it will wear you down and will go back to the direction it was internally programmed to head.
This is what happens when you try to change your life with willpower. You might make some minor corrections, but rarely ever a major one. You might do it for a little while, but almost inevitably it will be a short-term change and it creates a lot of stress inside of you.
There is a better and easier way: change your autopilot, in this case, the way you think. When God does transformation He doesn’t start with our heart or hands. He starts in our minds which control our whole body.
The New Testament calls this repentance, which in Greek literally means, “to change your mind.” You repent whenever you change the way you think by adopting how God thinks.
That may be about yourself, sin, God, other people, life, your future, and everything else. You take on Christ’s outlook and perspective. When you look from that perspective, lots of other things can be changed.
Peace in the Lord,
