"Healing Choices: Self-Control is not an Option"
“For the grace of God…teaches us to say, ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and Godly lives…”Titus 2: 11 – 13 NIV
Yesterday we talked about self-control. It’s not optional for Christians. The race we are running is for eternity, so we need to develop a strict discipline.
Here are some other steps to help you gain self-control as you make healing choices:
Talk back to your feelings. Don’t let your feelings master you, master them with God’s help. Learn to challenge your emotions.God gives you the power to make the right choices, ones that lead to healing. He gives you the ability to say no to feelings, to the desires and to the impulse. So believe that you can change.
God has planted some very special fruits inside of you. We call them the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These can grow in your through life if you let them.
God gave us the power to change our habits when He gave us the power to choose our thoughts. He wants us to be transformed rather than conformed to this world as He reminds us in Romans 12: 2.
In transformation our mind and our body gets changed. Don’t doubt that we will be tested by temptation yet when you are transformed by God you are able to withstand that temptation.
Paul says we’re not facing any different temptations than others have faced; they overcame them; so can we. He reminds us that we will not face any temptation greater than what we can withstand with God’s help.
Trust that Word when you face temptation.
Peace in the Lord,
