St. Luke, Evangelist

"God's Spirit is Working in You"

“God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey Him and the power to do what pleases Him.”Philippians 2: 13 NLT

So often we think that it’s our own resolve that creates Christ-like character. That’s not true. It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to that.

2 Corinthians 3: 18 tells us, “As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more.” This process is called sanctification.

You will never succeed at producing the character of Jesus by your own strength. Resolutions, willpower and best intentions are not enough. Only the Holy Spirit has the power to make the changes God wants to make in our lives.

So often, when we mention the “power of the Spirit” many people think of miraculous demonstrations and intense emotions. Most of the time what the Holy Spirit is doing is done in a very quiet, unassuming way, nudging you toward what God wants.

Christ-likeness comes about because the presence of the Holy Spirit inhabits us with the very spirit of Jesus. In the waters of Baptism God gives us that Spirit and remains in us so that we can be like Jesus.

How does it show itself in the way we live each day? We see it in the choices we make. We choose, with God’s help, to do the right thing in situations and trust God’s Spirit to give us the power, love, faith and wisdom to do so.

Since God’s spirit lives within us, those resources are always in us

Peace in the Lord,

Pastor Don
