"Healing Choices: Be Teachable, Not Unreachable."
“If you accept correction, you will be honored.” Proverbs 13: 18 NLT
Meekness means you have a teachable spirit. Meek people are eager to learn. They don’t know it all. They aren’t embarrassed to admit that.
Perhaps you remember James 1: 19, “Understand this, my dear brothers and sister; you must all be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry.” It gives you a way to keep yourself in control as you deal with people.
In fact, if you do the first two, the third is almost an automatic. When you’re quick to listen and slow to speak, you will be slow to anger because you’re giving people the grace time they need to be understood.
On the other hand, if you are slow to listen and quick to speak, you will often find yourself in misunderstandings, which will often lead to anger. This isn't a pleasant way to live, although some choose to do so.
It’s no different for you then it is for anyone else. Each of us needs to take the time to listen. When you do that you become more teachable. When you are open to learning, you'll find that your relationships improve.
It impacts how you hear concerns expressed; it makes you open to new ideas. It opens you up to the possibility of learning new things. Helps explain why the meek will inherit the earth, doesn’t it?
A few weeks ago I saw this sign: “I’d rather change my mind and succeed then have my own way and fail.” Meekness has nothing to do with being a weak person. It has everything to do with being an understanding, gentle person.
A meek person is someone who has made the healing choice to be teachable. When you are growing, it is much easier to reach you, both personally and for Christ.
Peace in the Lord,
