"Waiting is a Hardest Part -Part 2"
“Now the serpent…said to the woman, ‘Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden?’” Genesis 3: 1 NIV
So Sarai took it upon herself to fulfill the promise. No longer trusting God to do the job, she took it upon herself to accomplish the promise. Waiting is the hardest part and Sarai was tired of waiting.
Perhaps it was when she was sitting in her hot and humid tent listening to the support poles creak that she thought she heard through the open flaps the camel’s snort and a little voice.
Was that voice like the hiss of a serpent, saying, “Did God really say your husband would be the father of a family so vast that it would surpass the number of stars in the sky?” Little did she know how her decision would impact her and her family. Her eyes fell on her servant, Hagar, and at that moment she had the solution. Unfortunately, all she could see was the solution not the consequences of the Pandora’s Box she was about to open.
She might have thought this was God’s answer. After all, He had given her Hagar.
But the truth is Sarai believed her assumptions more than she believed God’s promise. It was the Lord’s fault that she had not born a child and she was tired of waiting.
She and the Lord were no longer of one mind. What about you? Where in your life do you say the same things as Sarai? Where are you blaming God for what’s not happening and that He’s keeping you from it? God’s concern is that you master the lessons of faith. He wants you to succeed, able to walk further in faith each day. Failure is not defeat; He will continue to teach you and stretch you, until walking by faith and not by sight is as natural as breathing. Turn to God right now and say it, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
Peace in the Lord,
