"Strong Marriages Build
Strong Culture"

“Righteousness lifts up a nation, but sin is a disgrace in any society.”
Proverbs 14: 34 GW

God created marriage for the construction of society.  It is the fundamental building block of community, church, state, nation, society and culture.  Where marriages are strong cultures, nations and empires are strong.

Where marriages and families are weak, culture is in decline.  When marriage is devalued, we know that a nation is in great decline.

That issue speaks to our national situation but also to a church situation in America.  The divorce rate for Christians is pretty much identical to the divorce rate for the nation as a whole.  So people of faith, who see marriage as a gift, don’t hold it any more sacred than those without faith.  “Houston, we’ve got a problem.”

What’s causing this?  A friend, who is a great Biblical teacher, says we are cursed with individualism.  Many years ago it was called the Me-generation.  The Me-generation has grown up and created people who are centered on self.  It’s causing a problem.

For one thing, we’re being disobedient to God.  When we make ourselves the center, we’re displacing God from our lives.  When our wants, desires and decisions are more important than what God wants, we have violated the First commandment, “Have no other God’s before Me.”

God wants us to place a high value on marriage and family.  When we do that, we can start to rebuild our society and culture.  That will please Him and make life together a lot better.

Peace in the Lord,

Pastor Don
