"God Uses Your Spouse to
Build Your Character"
“Love sincerely …. hold on to what is good. Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.”
Romans 12: 9 – 10 GW
God had created marriage to help perfect our character. He gives us the opportunity to learn how to be unselfish and loving there. There is no relationship that has greater impact in life than marriage.
The purpose of life is to grow up and realize that it’s not all about you. In fact, we find true happiness in giving our lives away. In life God wants us to learn how to love people unconditionally. That’s the most important thing we can do because God is love and He wants us to be like Him.
Our verse for today encourages us to be devoted to each other and to excel in showing respect. Are you doing that? When I perform a wedding for a couple they often think they are truly in love. They are, but I don’t think they really know the depth of it, yet. That takes time.
If you are already married, the number one tool God is using in your life to build Christ-like character is your spouse. Every day you get the opportunity to not think about yourself but instead think about the other person.
Roxann and I have now celebrated our 25th anniversary. That was a powerful milestone in my mind. We have shared this life together for 25 years through good times and in bad. I felt really accomplished.
Then, I was walking with an older couple, who have been married for more than 60 years. They were sharing their insights. I was humbled. We should all hear them. What a blessing their testimony would be.
Peace in the Lord,
