"Myths About Choosing
Your Spouse"

“The righteous choose their friends carefully.”  Proverbs 12: 26a NIV

Some people say you should choose your friends carefully.  If that’s so how much more careful should you be about your life partner?  You know, this is your choice?  God won’t force anyone on you.  He’ll make them available.

So spend some time with God.  Ask Him to lead and guide you, but also to give you guidelines.  Remember, ultimately, the person you select will be your choice.

Some people think there is only one person for you in the whole wide world.  That’s a myth.  There are lots of people for you.  Each of them brings different gifts and abilities to the relationships.  You’ll have a different life with each of them but, with God at the center of it, it will be a blessing to all.

Now there are some people God won’t want you to marry.  He warns us about marrying people who don’t believe in Him.  That’s not because He hates them.  He loves them, but when you marry somebody without faith, it likely means they also won’t have your values.

If you are already married God has helped you to make that choice.  Remember you need to keep choosing that, working at it, especially when there are difficulties.  God uses marriage to shape and form us for the next part of our lives.

If, on the other hand, you’re not married yet, God is at work in your life and relationships also.  His grace is always available and He loves you unconditionally.  You have a future of hope.

Peace in the Lord,

Pastor Don
