"Joy Is a Choice!"
“I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work ‘til it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1: 6 NLT
As we said yesterday Paul uses the word ‘joy’ 16 times in just four chapters. Joy is an inside job. It is not dependent on your circumstances or situation, only on your outlook and attitude.
We can share in Paul’s joy. Using the acrostic, “JOYFUL” we read the first three ideas yesterday.
Here are the last three today.
F – Focus on what’s good.
Life is filled with ups and downs. Your joy depends on which you focus on in life. Paul’s advice is to focus on the good. When you do that even the "downs" become more tolerable.
If you want to find the thing that will give you most joy, turn to God’s Word. When you fill your mind with that you will be very positive.
U – Use your life to help others.
Paul was joyful because he was unselfish. He invested his life in others. It’s an amazing thing. When you invest in others and serve them you get a whole new perspective on life. It keeps you from focusing on your own problems, which makes you less selfish.
L – Learn to be content.
That’s really the bottom line: joy is a decision, a choice. The problem is we get caught up in the “when and then” thinking. (When this happens, then I’ll be happy.) It rarely happens that way.
You may think it takes a special kind of person to be joyful. It doesn’t. It’s a choice. If you will begin to yield yourself to God’s purpose, get to know God’s Son and use your life to help other people, you will be more JOYFUL than you can imagine.
Peace in the Lord,
