"In All Things, Be Joyful!"
“Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done.”
Philippians 4: 6 NLT
You have a fundamental need for enjoying life. Just imagine what life would be like without joy. In fact, studies show that the more joyful you are the more productive you are.
Paul wrote this joyful letter to the Philippians while he was in jail, awaiting execution. In four chapters, he uses the word “joy” sixteen times.
There are six joy builders in his book. I’ll share three of them with you today. I’m using the acrostic – joyful.
J - Jettison all regrets about your past.
Do you know what jettison means? Get rid of them. Forget about your regrets because that’s what God does. The starting point for joy is letting go of the past.
O - Omit all worries about your future.
If you’re going to enjoy the past, you must omit all worries about your future. Worry, hands down, is the greatest joy-killer of them all. You can’t be joyful and worried at the same time.
Y - Yield yourself to God’s purpose.
Don’t just drift through life. Know where you’re going and why you’re going there. We all need a cause greater than ourselves for which to live. That brings us joy. Living for yourself never will.
Even when Paul had literally lost everything, there was one thing that could not be taken away from him, his purpose in life. Paul says in Philippians 1: 21, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
When you live with God’s purpose you will find joy and gain in life.
Peace in the Lord,
