"How to Leave a Family Legacy"
“Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds.” Hebrews 10: 24 NCV
Awesome families teach their kids that they’re not the center of the universe. They remind their children that they were shaped for a mission. They model dedication, service, generosity and prayer. Average families don’t do that. Awesome families do.
Most of us learn our values from our parents. As a youth, we might rebel against them, yet as an adult we often come back to them. Two of the most important values that parents can teach are to care for others and be generous in doing that.
When I was growing up I remember hearing about company coming. That often happened right before dinner. There was enough time for my mom to throw another potato in the pot. We had this really big table in our kitchen and there were constantly people coming to eat with us.
I know we occasionally had cousins living with us, some for a couple of years, in an apartment that didn’t seem big enough for us we were reminded that there was always room. There is something about learning that type of generosity that impacts you for life. That’s what awesome families do. They act generously towards those who need help.
Our parents learned that generosity from their parents and grandparents. The taught it to us so we can pass it on from generation to generation.
Peace in the Lord,
