"In a Storm, You Need
the Support of Family"
“Two are better than one … if one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it’s just too bad, because there is no one to help him.” Ecclesiastes 4: 9 - 10 TEV
You might say, families are the raincoats in the storms of life. None of us escapes storms. We pray we might experience them at different times. Whoever is going through a storm needs help. Awesome families protect each other in the storm.
There are three storms when we need to care for our family members. The first is change. Another storm is what I call harmful ideas. But the most painful storm of all is rejection. When someone feels rejected, the family needs to rally around and be there as a raincoat in that storm.
If you are a parent you have probably needed to comfort your child from a rejection. There is nothing more powerful than when a child comes home feeling rejected, crying, then is surrounded by those who love them.
They don’t need advice. They don’t need to be told how stupid so-and-so was. What they just need to know is that you’ll hold them close to your heart and let them cry.
In the safety of that raincoat they can find peace. Sometimes, we make the mistake of trying to rationalize it all or tell them how unimportant it was. At that moment, they just need to have the feeling and be allowed to feel it.
Peace in the Lord,
