"Jesus Trusted the Bible. You Should Too!"
“For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” Matthew 5: 18
I always thought it odd when people say, “I trust Jesus but I’m not sure about the Bible.” There’s a problem with that logic. Jesus trusted the Bible, every word of it! He taught that the Bible was a unique book, above all the others.
As our verse reminds us Jesus said in Matthew that nothing in that Word will change until everything is accomplished. It will accomplish what God wants to accomplish through it.
In John 10: 35 He says, “We know that scripture is always true.” He wouldn’t have said that if it isn’t so. He doesn’t just talk about the Bible as poetry or history. He saw the Bible as something that changes lives, just as we talk about Jesus as changing lives.
The most important thing in the Bible was not how it conveyed the message but rather the response to that message. What He hoped we would do is obey it.
He used the Old Testament events to portray real people who had taken real steps in obedience. He also used it to warn about what happens if you don’t take those steps of obedience.
He used the people of the Old Testament as illustrations for us. They were examples to follow or not to follow so that we would lead the type of life that God wants us to.
I trust the Bible because Jesus trusted it. I hope you will too.
Peace in the Lord,
