"Use Your Memory Muscle"

“Let the message about Christ, in all it’s richness, fill your lives.  Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives.  Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.”  Colossians 3: 16 NLT

One way to abide in God’s Word is by remembering it.  Your capacity to remember is a God given gift.  You may think you have a poor memory, but its really not.

The truth is you have millions of ideas, truths, facts and figures memorized.  You remember what is important to you.  Make God’s Word important and you’ll remember it.

By the way, memorization is not just to fill your head with little facts.  It helps you resist temptation, make wise decisions, reduce stress, build confidence, offer good advice and share your faith with others.  How do you like that?

The astonishing thing is that your memory is like a muscle.  The more you use it, the stronger it will become.  As you use it more, it also becomes easier.

So where do you start?  How about the connection card memory verse?  Maybe it’s too long this week.  How about a verse that just touches you and makes you feel good inside?

When you’ve decided which you want, write it down on a card.  Carry that card with you wherever you go.  Review them aloud throughout your day.

Did you say them?  Yes, I did.  Write more than one verse on your card.  That will give you a handsome impact.

If you have it on a card and it’s with you when you’re waiting on line at the store, waiting to pick up someone you can spend some time working on it.  Most of us have a lot of fill time.

Sometimes what we fill it with is complaining about how long the lines are.  Memorizing scripture will give us a much better attitude.

As our verse for today says, when we let the message of Christ fill our lives with the richness that it has, we will be wiser.  We’ll also be happier.

Try it, you might like it.

Peace in the Lord,

Pastor Don
