"You Can Count on God"
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting sands.” James 1: 17 NIV
Most of us experience life as change. As much as we try and hold on, it slips away from us. There is no way we can stop change. But there is one who does not change. That’s God!
He says He loves you and will be with you. You can count on that. He is reliable and trustworthy.
Unlike human fathers, God is unchanging and consistent. While we may never know where our earthly dads might be coming from at a point, we always know where God is coming from. The Bible is very clear on that: He is love.
He is not moody. You can count on the fact that God will always act the same towards you no matter what you have done. That’s a really important thing. God’s action towards us is not dependent on our action towards Him.
In 1979 Alvin Toffler wrote a book called “Future Shock.” He posited that in times of rapid change, people need what he calls islands of stability. Just imagine how much faster things are moving today than in 1979.
By the time you get your computer home, it’s obsolete. There is already a newer, faster, more complex computer available. You will never be able to stay up to date. And it’s only going to happen faster and faster.
That’s the problem. Things are changing so fast we need to find those islands of stability. You won’t find them here. You will find them in God. His consistent, caring love for us never changes.
Peace in the Lord,
