"Choose Grace; Not Bitterness!"
“See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” Hebrews 12: 15
We've talked about forgiveness and restoration. The question I have for you today is, “Are you still holding on to resentment?” If you are, someone is controlling you.
Ever find yourself saying, “He makes me so angry.” What you’re admitting is that “he” is controlling you. So what you want to do is choose grace and let the heart heal you.
Have you ever been involved where bitterness has poisoned the whole family? It’s sad. People talk about each other hurtfully. If you’ve lived in that type of family I want to lift a burden from you.
Let God’s grace lighten the burden. Without grace you may become bitter. The reason for that is, life is not fair. Why isn’t it fair? We live as broken people on a broken planet. Evil people get away with evil things and don’t even suffer misfortune.
Without grace it may make you bitter. Is forgiveness fair? Absolutely not. Forgiveness is not about justice. It’s about grace. You don’t forgive people because it’s fair. You forgive them to free yourself of resentment and the poison that comes from holding onto it.
And while you’re doling out that forgiveness, don’t forget one thing, it’s not cheap. It cost Jesus His life. If there is anyone who has a right to hold a grudge against people, it’s Jesus. Instead, He welcomes us and rejoices in our presence with Him.
Do you remember what Jesus said on the cross? “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.” That was grace at its best.
Peace in the Lord,
P.S.: The devotion will be on vacation Monday & Tuesday, July 3 & 4. Have a blessed holiday. Watch for its return on Wednesday morning.
