"Revealing is the Beginning
of Healing"

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”  James 5: 16a

Jesus asked a man at a pool, “Do you want to be healed?”  In answering, he revealed his desire.  Today’s verse reminds us that to be healed we need to ask for forgiveness.  That’s the first step, both physically and emotionally.

To be forgiven you confess your sins to God.  Yet, sometimes you hold onto the things you’ve done, even though you're forgiven.  So if you want to be healed emotionally, you need to tell somebody else.

Before you say how you couldn’t do that, here’s why you need to do it.  God knows that most problems are relational.  So the messed up relationships you have are at the root of the problems you have.

If we’re never honest with anybody in our lives, we’re really wearing a mask.  We pretend and fake it.  We’re dishonest with each other.  Sometimes, we even pretend that things are fine when they really aren’t.

What does that do to us?  It isolates us, keeping us from sharing.  It also keeps us from loving at a deeper level.  The reason for that is we cannot love fully with guilt in our hearts.

The problem is the more you hide the sicker you become.   When you reveal your feelings you can get affirmation that you’ve done the right thing.

So, if you really want healing from a mess you have created you’ve got to start being honest with people.  The very thing that you don’t want anybody to know about, that’s the area where God wants to give you the most grace in healing.

Peace in the Lord,
