"A True Disciples Continues in God's Word"
“If you continue in my Word, then you are truly disciples of mine.” John 8: 31 NASB
How do I grow? One step in the right direction is reading your Bible regularly. It’s a great way to get started but not the final step. Jesus wants you to make a long term commitment to learning about Him and His Word. That’s what makes you a disciple.
How do you continue in the Word and stay connected with Jesus for the long term? Here are some thoughts for you:
Make the decision to do it. It starts with your commitment. Don’t wait for a better time to make God’s Word a regular part of your life. Start your commitment today.
Make a declaration. Tell others about your plan. Hold yourself accountable. If you keep your commitment to God a secret, it’s easier to slip up.
Make a determination. Be absolutely determined to make this a permanent habit in your life, particularly when you first begin. It will stand you in good stead.
Double up. Get a partner to come alongside you for support and encouragement. This is a person with whom you can share what you learn in your quiet times. It might be person from a small group you’re in, a friend or family member.
Remember what Ecclesiastes 4:9 says, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.” Spending time with God is not meant to be for a short time. He hopes you’ll adopt it as a life-long habit.
Research shows that you need to do something for about six week’s straight to build a habit. Make God’s Word a part of your life today, for the rest of your life.
Peace in the Lord,
