"God Frees us Through His Word"

“You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.  And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
John 8: 31 – 32 NLT

Many people try to live to their full potential.  The problem is they don’t know what that is.  Only God, our creator, knows all that.  Everybody else, even our closest friends and most intimate family, only get a glimpse of our potential.

God knows what we're truly capable of.  We use such a small fraction of our brain.  Sometimes people say they need more intelligence.  What they really need is to use the intelligence they already have.

Many people live for the approval of others, which goofs us up.  They have these tapes playing in their head, words from others that tell them they're not capable.  Perhaps they’ve even been told they’ll never amount to anything.

The problem is those things get stuck in our brains.  When we try to do something, they start to play.  They’re lies, but we believe them.  They limit us in what we are able to do.  The Lord frees us from that bondage through His Word.

As our verse says we are truly disciples if we remain faithful to God.  But there’s an important payoff for that faithfulness, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

God’s Word will unlock all you’ve been made to do and be.  Through it, you’ll be able to do things you never thought possible.  So how do you go about that?

Learn God’s Word – You can’t put the Bible under your pillow and expect that you’ll learn it by osmosis.  You start by opening it and reading.

Accept God’s Word – It has to be the authority in your life.  You may not like what you read at times but if you want God’s best for your life, you need to accept what it says as the final authority for how to live.

Obey God’s Word – It’s not just learning and accepting, its doing.  You don’t get blessed for the parts of the Bible you know.  You get blessed for the parts of the Bible you do.

You were made for much more than you ever imagined, so open up God’s Word and get ready to do what only God can imagine.

Peace in the Lord,

Pastor Don
