"Ask God for a Repeat Performance"
“King Jehoshaphat went and stood before them and prayed aloud.”
2 Chronicles 20: 5b – 6a NLT
It’s really important for us to realize that there is no problem too big or too small for us to pray about. When Jehoshaphat saw all the problems he was facing he didn’t hesitate to go and pray to God.
When it feels like everything is falling apart, there is a way to pray about it. Jehoshaphat gives you a model of the three things you need to keep in mind when you feel overwhelmed.
1. Remind yourself who God is – Before you talk to God about a problem and focus on it, remind yourself that God is bigger than any problem you are facing. Listen to Jehoshaphat, “You’re bigger than all the nations, God. You’re bigger than anything I will ever face.”
2. Remind yourself of what He has done in the past – God works in miraculous ways. He did it in the Bible; He still does it now. Jehoshaphat remembered all the ways Godhad helped Israel in the past. Think the same way. That re-establishes His dependability.
3. Ask God for help – When you remember the ways God has helped ask for a repeat performance. It reassures you of God’s presence and powers but it also reassures you that He wants to help.
That’s the way you need to pray when you’re overwhelmed. No matter what the situation is, first remind yourself who God is, what He has done and then ask Him to do it again. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to talk about your problem.
Peace in the Lord,
