"Why Doesn't God Explain
When Things Happen?"
“Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.”
Psalm 37: 7a GW
One of the reasons people struggle with contentment is because we’re always looking for explanations for why things happen. We think that would make it a lot easier to accept. That’s a laugh. Yet, the fact that God doesn’t tell us why things happens ticks us off. So why doesn’t He?
The reason is He’s testing us. He’s waiting to see if we will let go of control and learn to be content, whether He explains it or not. Remember, He’s God? He doesn’t owe us an explanation for everything that’s happening. He’s not going to give us an explanation for everything.
God won’t give you an explanation, but He will test you. Do you remember when you were in school a teacher saying that there is to be “no talking during the test.” Then, even she would be quiet.
When God is silent, He’s testing you. Just as the teacher was silent, waiting for you finish your test. God is silent because He’s waiting for you to complete the test of faith. Will you let go of the control you think you need or will you hold it more tightly? Will you learn to be content and trust Him?
When things are going rough you really don’t need God’s explanation. What you need is God’s presence. Remember the other day we talked about God always being present. So if you need Him to be there He’s waiting for you to trust Him.
Peace in the Lord,
