"Let Go and Let God"

“Let go of your concerns!  Then you will know that I am God.  I rule the nations.  I rule the earth.”  Psalm 46: 10 GW

Every day we have to make a decision:  who’s going to be in charge of our life:  us or God?  That choice is a battle.  The reason for the battle is not God.  We’re the reason for the battle.  We want to control things and it’s very hard for us to give that up.

At the same time, we want to have less stress in our life.  The only way to do that is to “Let go, and let God.”  Giving up control lessens our stress.  That’s what our verse for today is telling.

I don’t know what you’re going to face this week.  You don’t either.  What God wants you to do is let go of it.

That’s the opposite of what we do.  When things get tough we want to hold on to it tighter.  Or we just give up; throw a pity party for ourselves and say, “We’ve got no control over it whatsoever.”

Those reactions to stress are foolish.  They don’t work.  Instead of being a victim or becoming hyper-controlling pray a prayer of surrender.  Some people use the Serenity Prayer to help them.

Many have never read the end of that prayer.  Here it is:  “Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, taking as Jesus did the sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that you will make all things right if I surrender to your will so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with you forever in the next.  Amen.”

That’s where the power is!  There is power when you surrender to God the very things you’re trying to control.

Peace in the Lord,
