"Use Your Head!"
“Don’t be knit pickers; use your head – and you heart! – to discern what is right; to test what is authentically right.” John 7: 24 MSG
Jesus was a man of great discernment. If you want to be like Him you have to allow the Holy Spirit to teach you discernment. Having discernment means you evaluate each decision, based on God’s priorities.
You don’t just accept things off the top of your head or at face value. You use your heart to look at them. You want to decide based on more than your likes.
Now, I’m not saying be a knit-picker, picking apart and challenging everything or criticizing everybody. But do consider what people expect you to do and are asking you to do based on God’s call.
We need to learn to discern and be aware of what we are allowing into our minds. When you read the newspaper, watch TV, read a magazine or read something on the internet do you always believe that it’s true?
Do you believe that everything God says is true? Which contains more truth for you, God’s word, the internet or whatever else you’re reading or taking in?
When you live with discernment you make sure your decisions are based on truth. That’s God’s truth, by the way, just in case you were wondering.
Peace in the Lord,
