"Because God Says So"
“When [Jesus] had finished speaking, He said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.’ Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything because you say so, I will let down the nets.’” Luke 5: 4 – 5 NIV
As followers of Jesus Christ, Jesus expects us to obey whatever He tells us to do – even if it appears foolish to other people, even if it doesn’t make any sense to us, even if we don’t understand it and we’re scared to death.
Jesus not only stepped into that boat, he started giving instructions on how to fish. Peter knew immediately that He’d never fished before because He said to put out into the deep water. You don’t catch fish in deep water, at least, not in Israel.
But did you notice Peter’s reaction? First, he didn’t argue with Jesus. He didn’t even confront Him with the fact that He was no fisherman. When Jesus said to put out the nets, he did it. He responded to Jesus with unquestioning obedience.
If you become like Peter, not questioning or debating with Jesus, God will bless your life. His instructions do not have to make sense to you. When God says so, you do it because you trust Him.
I don’t know what God’s already told you to do, but I will tell you this: disobedience always hurts you. When you disobey you will miss a blessing. God always has your best interest in mind, even if you can’t see it right away.
Peace in the Lord,
