"The Wise Ask God for Wisdom"
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to you.” James 1: 5
Need wisdom? Don’t we all? The good news is that God wants to give it to you. He not only wants to give it to you, He’s eager to do so.
Just as it pleased God when Solomon asked Him for wisdom (1 Kings 3: 7 – 14); it pleases God when we ask for wisdom. It’s in God’s nature to give. After all, that’s one of His primary motives.
Our verse for today reminds us that if we want wisdom all we need to do is ask God for it. Then watch how He provides it.
The verse for today says three things about how God gives wisdom. He does so:
CONTINUALLY – the verse says, “ask God who gives…” In Greek this is in the continuous tense. So it would be translated: He always gives. He doesn’t run out of energy; He never runs out of wisdom and never wears out.
GENEROUSLY – God’s resources are unlimited. He has enough for everyone and more. There will never be a shortage of wisdom on God’s part nor a reluctance to give it.
CHEERFULLY – James says that God gives wisdom, “without finding fault.” God loves to give. It’s part of His very nature. He doesn’t mind you asking so you don’t need to be embarrassed. It’s one of the gifts He wants to give you.
Peace in the Lord,
