"Baptism: You Are Part of God's Family"
“Praise God for the privilege of being in Christ’s family and being called by His wonderful name.” 1 Peter 4: 16 LB
Healthy families have family pride; members are not ashamed to be recognized as part of the family. Sadly, sometimes we fail to identify ourselves as part of God’s family.
Baptism is not some optional rite or ritual to be delayed or postponed. It signifies our inclusion into God’s family. We believe that it is God reaching into our lives to adopt us as His children.
In baptism God gives us the gift of faith. It is the process by which we die to sin and become alive to God. Through it we receive new life in Christ. We baptize into the Christian faith, not the Lutheran Church.
Not only does it join you to God but it also joins you to Good Shepherd or whatever congregation at which you are baptized. We take on responsibility for your life of faith and make promises to you that we will enable you to grow in that faith.
By baptism we enter into the family of God. As members of that family we work towards the family goal: “Sharing Christ, Changing Lives!” It’s a wonderful blessing to see lives changed just as we saw Daphne’s life changed two weeks ago as she was baptized.
In the waters of baptism our sins are washed away, God’s assurance of salvation is given to us and we can proclaim that we are part of His body, the Church, which is called to make disciples of all people. We rejoice in carrying out that mission.
Peace in the Lord,
