"You Have to Choose to Change"

“Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.”  Ephesians 4: 22

Change doesn’t just happen.  You can’t dream about it or desire it.  In order for it to happen, you will need to make a decision, a choice, the choice to change.

You see, change is intentional.  You have to determine when the change is going to happen and what it’s going to be.  You have to think about how you will implement it to make it happen.  In six months how will you be different than you are today?

People have said to me,  “Well, if I pray, God can change me.”  God is involved in change but He does it through us.  At some point, like a trapeze artist, you’re going to have to let go of the one bar in order to fly to to the other.

It may be frightening.  That’s why you have to make the decision to do it.  If you keep one hand on the old and one hand on the new what you’ll be is stuck between them.

That’s where some are right now.  They haven’t let go of the old as they grasp the new.  Rather than effectively changing, they’re hung up in the middle, not enjoying the benefits of the new and being held back by the detriments of the old.

Our verse for today reminds us that we have to let go.  The old habits, hurts, patterns and sins in your life need to be let go.  The Bible says to throw them off and trust that God is working in you “to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose” (Philippians 2: 13 NIV).

With that type of trust and help, you’ll succeed in the change you want to make.

Peace in the Lord,
