"Change Requires the Holy Spirit"

“Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.”  Ephesians 4: 24 NLT

You’ll need more power than just willpower to change.  You need God’s power.  That’s why Jesus promises to give us the Holy Spirit as He’s departing.

Here are the gifts that the Holy Spirit brings to us:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Those don’t all come immediately.

It takes God 60 years to grow an oak tree.  He can grow a mushroom in 6 hours.  Here’s the question for you:  do you want your life to be like an oak tree or a mushroom?

It took a long time to collect all the hurts, habits and hang ups that we each have.  Yes, God can work miracles, but He often does it in a long term period.

If you want to save your marriage, change your life, solve all your problems don’t think of this as a short term project.  It’s going to take you time.

The Holy Spirit works with us to become gradually more and more like Jesus.  Your character is the sum total of your habits.

Your responsibility is to develop new habits to change.

Peace in the Lord,

Pastor Don
