"How to Stay Enthusiastic
for a Lifetime"
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12: 11 – 12 NIV
If you want to reach your goals, you have to figure out how to maintain your enthusiasm over the long haul. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Nothing great is ever accomplished without enthusiasm.” I believe that with all my heart.
Without passion, another word for enthusiasm, you just can’t keep going. Being enthusiastic doesn’t mean that you never have a down day, but it helps you to look forward in faith.
In fact, the word enthusiasm gives us a hint to what keeps us excited. The root for enthusiasm comes from the Greek. “En” is the Greek word for “in.” “Theos” is the Greek for “God.” So “entheos” means to be “in God.”
When you are “in God,” God is the power behind what you’re doing. He’s the fuel that helps you accomplish the goals that you have set through His direction. When you feel your enthusiasm lacking, turn back to God. Ask Him to help you to continue to persevere on the path that He is leading you.
A lack of enthusiasm often comes when we fall victim to thinking it all depends on us. If we think we’re the power behind what’s going to happen, it’s pretty likely to flag quickly.
So, as you go through this week ask God to help you to be excited about the opportunities He’s giving you to serve Him. Then take hold and follow Jesus.
Peace in the Lord,
