"Why You Can Believe Jesus Is
Who He Says He Is"
“Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. And they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged and crucified, and He will be resurrected on the third day.” Matthew 20: 18 – 19 HCSB
To some the claims that Jesus made, such as “I am God; You need to worship me; I am the only way to heaven” seem outrageous. Perhaps they are the murmurings of someone who’s crazy.
Here’s one problem. There are a lot of people who’ve said similar things. How can we trust what Jesus says. No one else but Jesus has risen from the dead. Anyone who claims to be God and doesn’t rise can’t be Jesus.
You hear Jesus talking about that proof in our text for today: “…will be resurrected on the third day.” Jesus also didn’t say that only once. He said it on a number of occasions.
When He first starts talking about dying on the cross He isn’t specific about what follows. As He gets closer to His death He becomes much more specific about what’s going to happen afterwards.
The issue we have to deal with is, “did Jesus keep His word?” The answer is absolutely. That’s why so many people will celebrate Easter this coming weekend. That’s why all of time revolves around Him.
So there’s really only one reason why people doubt the divinity of Jesus. They just don’t want to believe. They’re offered plenty of proof. Because He is who He says He wants to be, history was split in half and billions of people, including you and me, if you are a believer, have been changed.
I pray you have a wonderful Easter celebration and that your heart is moved to great joy in the midst of it.
Peace in the Lord,
