"Your Heavenly Cheering Squad"
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. Let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us.” Hebrews 12: 1
When you go to a sporting event, it is generally believed that the home team has an advantage. Typically, a team has a better record of wins at home than on the road.
One of the reasons given for that is that at home, they have the advantage of the home crowd, cheering them on to victory. That often inspires them to play beyond their normal ability.
The Bible tells us that when we play for God we also have a home team advantage. We are surrounded by a crowd of witnesses to the life of faith. Nothing you do is private. You have an audience.
Heaven is watching. But, more importantly, it is cheering. The Bible says that the folks in heaven are cheering you on in this race of life.
You probably realize that God knows everything too. He knows your ups and He knows your downs. He knows every thought you’ve thought and every hope you’ve hoped.
What good news it is to know those people you’ve loved, who have gone to heaven, are still in your life? Just like they did while they were here on earth, they continue to cheer you on from heaven.
When you’re scared, they’re rooting for you to be courageous. When you want to give up, they’re urging you to keep on going. When you feel insignificant or unimportant, they’re reminding you that you’re important to them.
You’re important to God also. He’s your biggest fan.
Peace in the Lord,
